Is an individual’s ability to successfully adapt to life tasks in the face of social disadvantage or highly adversed conditions. Adversity & stress can come thru family, relationships, health, workplace problems as well as after cathastrophic events such as hurricanes, earquakes among others.
Resilience after a natural disaster can be gauged in a number of different ways. It can be gauged on an individual level, a community level, and on a physical level.
The first level, the individual level, can be defined as each independent person in the community.
The second level, the community level, can be defined as all those inhabiting the locality affected.
The third and physical level can be defined as the infrastructure of the locality affected.
Resilience is important into our lives for a number of reasons:
1. Enables us to develop mechanisms for protection against experiences that could bring us overwhelming feelings such as anxiety.
2. Brings us balance to our lives and hence better judgment during these difficult moments or periods.
3. Last but not least, teaches to protect us from the development of mental health difficulties.
The following 3 steps will help to activate self resilience:
Do your best through challenge, do not let it take control over you. Do not let it paralize you, because you are the courageous warrior of your life. No one makes you suffer. Life has struggles, it won’t stop. Failures and mistakes are leassons, as opportunities for growth. Seeing or grieving on them as negative reflection will keep away our inner abbilities or self-worth.
Keep doing your best through self-commitment to your life and goals. Resiliency searches for the compelling reason to get out of bed in the morning. Commitment isn’t restricted to self-work, it extends towards relationships, friendships, the causes they care about, and their religious or spiritual beliefs.
Resilient people spend their time & energy focusing on situations and events that they have control over. Because they put their efforts where they can have the most impact, they feel empowered and confident.
